Ballroom Newsletter – September 3rd 2013

Dear Dancer,

The school season has commenced and it is time to come back to class. Or as my friend Aristede (who will not use a one-syllable word when a four-syllable word exists that says the same thing) would say: “it would be imminently advantageous to re-introduce terpsichorean matriculation into ones regimen of personal development and advancement”. To which I say “Stuff it, Aristede”.

However phrased, however, the sentiment is not without merit and we look forward to seeing the happy faces of our returning students (with their happy bodies wandering along immediately beneath those faces) gracing our classes once again eager to renew their commitments to elegance, grace, style and just plain fun now that their minds and bodies have been refreshed and rejuvenated from their respective sabbaticals, vacations and various escapades (about which we look forward to hearing.)

You will not be able to help but notice that we are offering Swing in all of our weekly classes this month. That is because we are intent upon preparing you for the Big Band bash on the 21st called “Swing Into Autumn” propitiously scheduled on the eve of the last day of Summer.

The Beginning class on Tuesday will move slowly, focusing on the basic figures and technique thereby building a strong understanding of the basics and strengthening the ability to remember those figures.

The Wednesday and Thursday classes will also begin with the basics, but will move along a little more quickly and include more figures for a broader vocabulary of figures (fancy schmancy talk for “more fun”). Beginners are welcome in the slightly faster classes and the more advanced are welcome to strengthen their skills in the Beginning class.

The Saturday morning Technique Class will be Foxtrot (since the Siskiyou County Big Band plays predominantly Swings, Foxtrots and Quicksteps) which will give you the chance to dance more (a lot more).

Come join us for that or any other reason.

Cheers.

See you on the dance floor.
