Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County – January 7th 2014

Dear Dancer,

Welcome to the first full week of classes for 2014. We hope your holidays were merry and bright, and that we are all resolved to make 2014 a happier, more prosperous year for ourselves and for others.

Speaking of resolutions, those of you who have resolved to be healthier, fitter and lighter, etc…,let us once again suggest a focused Ballroom Dance regimen to accomplish all of those goals. And don’t forget smarter. . . the memorization of steps and moves, the coordination of mind and body, the association of movement to music; all of these combined, it has been proven, to affect parts of the brain in ways that result in higher levels of visual acuity, stronger memories and improved cognitive functioning. That is one of the reasons (or perhaps three of the reasons) that Ballroom Dance is the only physical activity that has been proven to combat Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. We keep a small paragraph at the end of all of these newsletters regarding this, with a link to a Stanford research site that has explored this phenomenon. And to encourage you to look into it, we will copy that link right here:

http://socialdance.stanford.edu/syllabi/smarter.htm

So whether you have resolved to be fitter and healthier, smarter and more perceptive or to simply ward off the possibility of dementia (not to mention a ton of other benefits), you would be hard pressed to find a better activity than social dancing. Come join us and experience the benefits for yourselves.

And for those of you who were away for the holidays and missed last week’s newsletter, we are again pleased to announce that we now have an advert on the Siskiyou Media Council’s channels (YCTV 4 and MCTV 15).

Those of you who want a chance to see it can find it on YouTube using this link:

Let us know what you think.

See you on the dance floor.
