Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – December 17th 2018

Dear Dancers,

As a sort of belated Christmas present, we would like to present to you our new Spring line-up of COS classes.  How can a Christmas present be belated when there is still more than a week left before Christmas?  Simple: you won’t get it until February 5th at the earliest, making it a belated Christmas present!

But you can start enrolling now (or enrolling a family member, friend or adored acquaintance and then telling them about it on Christmas Day as a . . . voila! . . . Christmas present!).  The registration information follows:

Tuesdays, February 5th through March 12th, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Yreka Campus (2001 Campus Drive) Rm 7, Course numbers 3412, XFW0311-01

And:

Tuesdays, April 2nd through May 7th, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Yreka Campus (2001 Campus Drive) Rm. 7, Course numbers 3413, XFW0310-01

We will be teaching 5 dances for each session (both the one beginning in February and the one beginning in April) so you will get two hours of each dance (instead of the one hour for each dance we offered last Spring) plus a final week of review and “re-memorification”.   That means more steps for each dance!

We will discuss which dances later.

Meanwhile, back in the moment, Christmas is still around the corner and we won’t be held responsible for all of the boo-hoos and lamentations and gnashings of teeth that you will be hearing from everyone who did not get the gift of dance for Christmas, so we leave it up to you to spread the joy.  We will do our part once they get there, all you have to do is get them there.

Pricing information can be found just beneath this introduction.

And, once the madness of Christmas shopping is over, you can relax and blow off steam by attending a . . .

New Year’s Eve Celebration!  On December 29th   9:00-12:00 at Watson’s Veteran’s Club (on Main Street, Mt. Shasta), the group Jefferson Justice will be playing and they have told us to prepare for a night of Swing music and Country Two-Step music.  At last, a chance to dance socially instead of academically.  No Cover Charge!

So, come dance, come share the joy of dancing and we wish Happy Holidays to all!

9:45 – 11:45 am

Dance:   Quickstep II

9:45 – 10:45 am:     Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities.  Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Lowering, Rotation, Swing, Cant and Sway.  Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression.   Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.

And that is just too much fun to miss out on!   So, what say you give it a try?  Eh?

10:45 – 11:45 am:      Amalgamations.   Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.

COST:  $15/person

               $10/person youth discount

January’s dance:  FOXTROT I
