Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – June 3rd 2019
Dear All,
Well I must say (must you? . . . yes! . . . I must) that last Saturday night’s big shindig was a huge success! Everyone had a great time and we all danced up a storm (the rest of you probably didn’t notice because it had already been raining around the area)! In fact, such a good time was had that apparently socks were knocked off up to three counties away!
The dancing was fun; the food was good; the company was unsurpassable (a great big thanks to our friends from Sacramento – Joe, Gail and the Downright Country Dancers – without whom this party would not have occurred). That’s what I call a win-win shindig! We will be doing this again next year, so if I were you, I’d clear out my social calendar and start reinforcing my socks now!
For those of you who are local (and for whom a year is far too long to wait), the good news is that there will be another dance party/practice party on June 28th up at Lake Shastina in the clubhouse (exactly like the one we had on Friday May 24th). Minimal teaching, maximal dancing, supra-maximal fun! We hope to keep these going as a regular feature and if you’d like to see that too, attend in droves. Stay tuned (always good advice in itself) and we will have more details on the week of the dance.
Now, a new month: June – which means a new dance on Tuesdays. We will be introducing the Bolero which is one of the most beautiful dances and one of our favorites. Join us and learn the beginning most-basic steps of this absolutely gorgeous dance. (Remember, when you are doing a gorgeous dance, how can you be any less than gorgeous yourselves? ‘Nuff said!)
Tango will move to Wednesday and pick up where it left off on last month on Tuesdays (as usual), so stick with it and you will be learning even more fun, challenging and more dramatic steps.
This month we are doing something a little different with the Rumba as it moves to Thursday. Since about 80% of Rumba and Cha-cha steps are interchangeable, we are going to be converting the Rumba steps you have learned over the last two months to Cha-cha steps so that you will develop a deeper understanding of how both dances work and how to convert back and forth between the two on your own.
And we will also highlight those steps of each dance that cannot convert to the other dance (such as Rumba Walks and Syncopated Cha-cha steps) so you will learn how to understand the difference. It is going to be a fun month for both dances. And for you!
Join us (both a request and an exhortation).
Be seeing you all in class.
