Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – August 12th 2019
Dear All,
Does the cold weather have you down? Well one of the best warming-up dances there is is Samba! As a dance it has everything: fun steps, fun movements and actions within the steps, radical waist-trimming technique, music to die for and aerobic, to boot! (And if it does get too warm, we can always kick in the air-conditioning! Win – win!)
We are still at the beginning level, so if you have been beating yourself up for having missed last week, beat no longer! You can still join us and reap all of the benefits listed above and more! How much more? Come and find out. Once you know the secret, you will be in “the club” (instead of beating yourself with one for not coming)!
The Waltz is still joinable as well. While it is moving along and more beautiful steps are being taught (and learned), it is still at a relatively easy stage. Join us and watch your Elegance Quotient increase dramatically!
And what can we say about the Bolero that we haven’t already said? Well, plenty, but I have already used up all of my exclamation marks for the rest of the week in this newsletter, so I have to tone it down now or go to Exclamation Mark Over-use Prison.
The variations that we are learning just keep getting more and more beautiful, complex (challenging) & fun. Probably not a good place for beginners to join in, but you are all welcome to come watch and be inspired for the next time it comes around (and it will come around again).
Finally, about the COS classes: they are going to be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm starting on September 17th and running until October 24th at the new, beautiful Weed Community Center. As soon’s we all hear sumpin’, we all’s gonna say sumpin’. Like, what the registration info, and dances to be taught are going to be.
Stay tuned (and while you are staying tuned, come to dance class so your coordination, skill-levels & over-all dancing can remain tuned as well).
Be seeing you (in class).

Saturday Mornings: August 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31
Dance: Latin Technique! (Rumba, Cha-cha, Samba, Salsa & Swing)
9:45 – 11:00 am: Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities. Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation, etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.). Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression. Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.
And that is just too much fun to miss out on! So, what say you give it a try? Eh?
11:00 – 11:45 am: Amalgamations. Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.
COST: $15/person
$10/person youth discount
