Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – December 30th 2019

Dear All,

Well, one more Christmas under the belt (literally).  We’d like to invite you to dance off some of that holiday cheer (the comestible type) but the holidays once again interfere.  Since the Wellness Center closes early on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, we won’t be able to hold classes on Tuesday or Wednesday nights this week (due to the locked doors).

But Thursday is still on!  And the Quickstep is a great dance for holiday rehabilitation, so come join us on Thursday and dance yourselves back into condition. Saturday’s Waltz class is unaffected and will happen as usual (as if learning the techniques of how to dance exquisitely can, in any way, even remotely begin to be called “usual”!)..

You will be pleased to hear that because the holidays cut out so many class days this month, we have decided to continue with December’s classes through January.  That way you can really lock the steps in place in your memories and still learn some new ones as well.

The Wednesday & Thursday night classes will pick up where they left off and after a quick review, continue onwards.  The Tuesday night Foxtrot class will start at the beginning but with the alternate rhythm steps -SQQ- (which was going to be the next step for the basic rhythm steps -SSQQ- that the class learned in December in any event).  That way brand new dancers can start with basic, really easy steps and those of you who have faithfully attended those meager few days in December will continue your training with new steps.  Brilliant, if I do say so myself (but if I don’t, then who?)!

So, join us for Quickstep this week if you feel up to it, or wait for the New Year and its attendant new classes and start out the new year with a commitment that this is the year when you learn how to shine on the dance floor (and I don’t mean taking a job polishing dancers’ shoes!)!    (More on the topic of resolutions and resoluteness next week – the first full week of classes for 2020.)

Happy New Year to all!  Go out and kick up your heels one last time for 2019!  Then come to class and learn how to really kick up your heels in 2020!

Be seeing you in classes.

p.s.  Gift certificates will still be available for pick up at the Wellness Center both tonight (12/30) between 4:00 p & 9:00 p, and also on Wednesday (1/1/2020) from noon to 6:00p for those of you who may still need a last-minute face-saving gift.

Saturday Morning Technique Class

Mt. Shasta Park

Dance Lodge

 1315 Nixon Rd.

Mt. Shasta, CA

Saturday Mornings:   January 4, 11, 18, 25

Dance:   WALTZ

9:30 – 10:45 am:     Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities.  Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation,  etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.).   Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression.   Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.

And that is just too much fun to miss out on!   So, what say you give it a try?  Eh?

11:00 – 11:30am:      Amalgamations.   Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.

COST:  $15/person

               $10/person youth discount

January dance:   WALTZ   (possibly w/Viennese Waltz added)
