Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – February 17th 2020
Dear All,
Important announcement: The end-of-the-month Dance Party will be happening this Friday (2/21) instead, so make sure you clear your calendars, brush off your dance shoes and don’t miss it!
It will be at the usual place (Lake Shastina Club House 15244 Driftwood Lane, Lake Shastina), the usual time (6:30 pm to 8:30 pm). Refreshments, casual dressy, lots of different dances, suggested donation of $10; you know the drill. And if you don’t know the drill, come learn it. Mostly dancing with a little teaching (or learning, depending on your perspective), good company (each other) and fun. Don’t forget the fun. Come for all of it.
Nothing else new to announce other than the brand new figures (steps) you are all going to get to learn this week. Each new step is another “word” in the vocabulary of steps that each and all of you are amassing. Soon you will be speaking Dance without even opening your mouths.
One small change this week; this week only we will be holding the Saturday Morning “Quickstep” Technique class in the Main Lodge (aka the Upper Lodge . . . aka The First Lodge You Come To). The times will be the usual 9:45 to 11:45 am.
For those of you who have not been exposed to the Saturday Morning Technique class, that is were we break the movements down to their most basic, effective components to improve your dancing and over-all movement. You will learn the basic principles of movement and dancing with a partner that will give you the ability to move better, bigger and with a lot more confidence & flair. You will learn not only how to dance better, but how to dance better faster. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go.
The nature of the class allows everyone to work at his or her own level, so all levels are welcome. And the technique you will be learning for Quickstep will be the exact same technique that will apply to the Foxtrot, Waltz & Viennese Waltz as well. Please feel free to join us. You won’t regret it.
And the weekly classes are all still getting better and better one (to two) step(s) at a time. Everyone is doing great and we look forward to seeing you all this week. The figures (steps) are only going to keep getting better! Make sure you don’t miss out.
Be seeing you in class.

Saturday Morning Technique Class
Mt. Shasta Park
Main Lodge (upper lodge) This week only
1315 Nixon Rd.
Mt. Shasta, CA
Saturday Mornings: February 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Dance: QUICKSTEP
9:45– 10:45 am: Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities. Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation, etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.). Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression. Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.
And that is just too much fun to miss out on! So, what say you give it a try? Eh?
11:00 – 11:45am: Amalgamations. Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.
COST: $15/person
$10/person youth discount
March Dance: QUICKSTEP (continuing)
