Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – June 7th 2022

Dear All,

In the end, the news is good.  In the beginning . . . not so good.

As many of you already know, Peggy was at the DMV last Friday when she collapsed.  Her heart had just stopped.  Fortunately, by being at the DMV, she was surrounded by government employees who were all well trained in CPR and who immediately (after calling the EMT people) began resuscitating her. Then the EMT squad arrived, took over and kept her going until they got her to the hospital (who then took over keeping her going).

All efforts were a success, and she is back with us.  An angiogram showed that all of her arteries are clear so no bypass surgery or stint installation will be necessary.  We are still awaiting word on what will be done, and I will post it here once I am told.

As I am (and have been for the last three days) driving down to Redding (Peggy is being held at Mercy Medical Center in Redding) and back up daily, I am afraid that for this week (and hopefully this week only) we will be cancelling classes (good thing this is a five Wednesday and Thursday month, eh?).

In all fairness to you all, my mind does not contain the crystal clarity you have all come to expect from me (weak attempt at humor) not to mention that I am usually pretty exhausted by the time I get back from Redding (sometimes not getting back in time for class, even).  I just go home and conk out (or as the British say “go home and go conkies” {which I suppose would make me a conkies-tador [even weaker attempt at humor but at least a chance to try a triple-parenthetical clause – possibly my first – probably my last]}).

Depending on which course of action Peggy decides to follow (once we are apprised of all courses of action available) she may be able to actually be in class next week, at least in a supervisorial capacity, or not, but I have every confidence that by next week, I will be.

Thank you all for understanding.

Glooms, . . . no, she is actually recovering quite nicely, so:

Cheers,

Rick

p.s. sorry to be getting this to you so late.  Peggy usually does the sending of e-mails, and I had get her expertise to figure it out.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s.  We have relaxed Mask Protocols..  We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what you feel is best for yourselves and will happily don our own masks when dealing with you specifically should you so desire.  Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be.  Make your decisions accordingly but make them based on real information.  Don’t be afraid to wear them, but don’t feel that you must.

p.p.s.    What do you call it when The Lone Ranger takes you out for dinner and a movie?  A “masked man date”!
