Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – May 22nd 2023
Dear All,
Here it is, folks! After many months in the making, it is arriving at last this Friday! The famous Fourth Friday of the Month Practice Party! Now who (you might ask yourselves) would need to practice how to have a party? Well Monsieur/madam/mademoiselle, you miss my meaning. This isn’t a party for practicing having parties; it is a party for practicing your dance steps (wa-hoo!s from the audience!).
And the really, really, really good news about that is that, as a practice party, you don’t have to be the kind good-at-it that most of you might think you would have to be before you would qualify as dance party material. It’s a Practice Dance Party, the very place you would go to practice your new skills in a social setting where no one is expecting advanced skills. In other words, all the fun of a dance party with none of the anxieties associated with anticipated perfection.
Unlike classes, where you work on only one dance a night for a month, you will get to dance a wide variety of dances (in fact, all of the variety of dances!) in one night with partners who you ask or who will ask you (instead of having the instructors telling you who to dance with (or, rather, telling you with whom to dance). And you get to practice and develop your skills in a real-world environment where you can use your newly-acquired floor craft skills to actually commit (gasp) floor craft!
Festive gaiety will abound. One of our members (Victoria, the Mistress of The Practice Dance Party) will be supplying snack foods and a beverage, but if there is something you really want to see there or if you have a favorite you would like to share with the rest of us, bring it and double the festive gaiety!
This event will be happening at the Lake Shastina Community Center (aka the Lake Shastina Clubhouse) located at 15244 Driftwood Lane in Lake Shastina (word of warning: most of the online global positioning systems like to turn you the wrong way on the very last direction/turn. The clubhouse is actually on the lake itself, so turn downhill towards the lake on that last direction/turn and you will arrive correctly).
The times will be: 7:00 to 9:00 pm this Friday May 26th. Be there or be square! (Or be there and be square. Your choice . . . one of the many inherent benefits of freedom!). Your hosts will be your instructors (Rick and Peggy) who will be providing the music (if you have a favorite dance song, we will be happy to try and insert it) and who will also be happy to help you out with any step or figure that you might want help with throughout the evening.
Feel free to bring a guest or two and we will happily show them the basics of any dance that may strike their fancy. Also, we will be taking a few minutes out to teach the basic few steps of a dance that many of our newer students may not have had yet, just to break things up a little.
Suggested donation: $10. (Or thereabouts.)
And, of course, we will look forward to seeing you in classes this week. Perhaps we will give you a grand, “socko” ending for some of your dances this Friday. At the very least, you will have a few more steps in which to shine (or in which to practice shining) at the Practice Party.
See you there (and see you THERE!).
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon
