Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – February 20th 2024

Dear All,

What this part of the world needs is an indoor activity that is absorbing, challenging and fun, especially in this season of rain and more rain.  If only we could think of something . . . something like . . . I don’t know . . .  well . . . and this is just a thought . . . a wild stab in dark . . . ballroom dance, maybe?  Why, that would be the very thing!  The very very thing!

Absorbing?  Yes!  It is amazing how fast an hour goes by when you are learning new steps and strengthening the old ones.  Challenging?  Yes!  Getting the body to respond naturally and smoothly to the myriad elements of ballroom dancing takes more than a little practice before it becomes second nature (which happens when one steps up to meet those challenges)!  And fun?  Double-down-dirty-dog-dance-a-doozy yes, fun (“Double-down-dirty-dog-dance-a-doozy” is the highest stratification of fun as listed in all of the best professional manuals, we’ll have you know)!

If you haven’t reached the fun stage yet, don’t worry: you’re almost there already!  Come to classes this week and push yourself over the threshold of fun as you learn even more new steps, some more style (and we will be teaching a little flair these last couple of weeks as well to help you shine on the dance floor).

Then, next month (March 2024) it will be the Waltz’s (Thursday nights) and Samba’s (Wednesday nights) turns to be taught and taught they will be.  And speaking of “taut”, that’s what your calves and ankles will be after a month of Samba (not to mention your waists)! Come for the dance, acquire the fitness and feel the fun!

See you there this week and next month (and long thereafter, we hope).

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
