Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – September 23rd 2024

Dear All,

Last week of September, folks.  We will be tying up loose ends in both of our classes, so if you don’t want to spend the rest of your lives with a loose-ended Salsa and a loose-ended Quickstep (or, at least, loose-ended until the next time we teach those dances), be sure and make it.  You won’t be sorry (in fact, we have ways to make you not be sorry!).

Quick change of tone, here, folks.  Sorry to say, we have to suspend classes next week (10/2 & 10/3).  The good news is that October is a 5 Wednesday and a 5 Thursday month, so you will still get a full month’s worth of classes in before November rolls around (and our California Psychic assures us that November will definitely be rolling around).

I (Rick) am going into UC Davis Medical center on Monday the 30th for a Pulsed Field Ablation (a not too invasive treatment for A-Fib ({Atrial Fibrillation [erratic and too quick heartbeat]}) with which I have been limping along (so to speak) since the summer of 2022.  It is a relatively simple procedure (they won’t even dignify the process with the term “operation”, that’s how non-invasive it is {though semantically, the two words [“procedure” and “operation”] are virtually the same}), but I will be required to take it easy and not schlep around anything more than 10 lbs. for seven days.

As my body weight comes in at, at least a couple of ounces more than that (ahem!), in order to keep myself from actually schlepping those few extra ounces about the dance floor, we have suspended classes for that first week in October (but that first week only!  For every other week, we will be there with bells on {bells that weigh less than 10 lbs., that is}).

We anticipate a successful completion of the procedure and a livelier, stronger and more vivacious (dear Lord! Not that!) Rick in the not too distant future.

The dances for October will be Rumba (Wednesdays) and Waltz (Thursdays).  Two of the slower dances, which will help you in that you will have a greater opportunity to learn the techniques that will make all of the dances (and all of your dancing) more accessible and easier for you.  And it will help us by not putting any strain on the post-procedure recuperative process.  A month of ease and learning for all!

Be sure to not miss it (if you think we have ways to make you not sorry now, just wait until I am in possession of my full set of faculties again.  You will be not-sorrier than you have ever been before!).

So come to classes this Wednesday and/or Thursday for the grand Tying-Up-Of -Loose-Ends, then rest on your laurels for a week, and come back fresh the second (through fifth) week of October.

We will issue another newsletter next week to remind you of the status of the classes for that week and to update you (that is to say, warn you if the prognosis looks good) on how things went and, we presume, how things will keep on going.  Wish us luck.

(And this, folks, is the difference between me havin’ somethin’ and me havin’ nuthin’!)

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
