Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – October 8th 2024
Dear All,
Yes, Virginia, there is dancing this week! I feel stronger than I have in a long, long time, and Peggy is chomping at the bit (I believe the original phrase may have been “champfing at the bit” but I am having trouble verifying it. I’ll get back to you), so it’s full steam ahead this week and for the whole month, not to mention months and years to come)!
And speaking of “full steam”, you will be happy to learn (we hope) that I already have more steam than I have had in a long time, thanks to the ablation procedure. I had been led to believe that there might be a recuperation period of several weeks or more, but my heart rate normalized immediately after the procedure and it is still holding strong a week later. Come to class and see firsthand (or firsteye)!
More good news: We have double-checked with the Waltzing Federation of Australia (WFA) and it turns out that none of you will have to change your name to “Mathilda” in order to join the Waltz class on Thursday. It was touch-and-go there for a while, but the special dispensation came through and all of our original names are safe. This should be particularly good news to the men, and a relief to the entire class knowing that when we call out “tighten up that frame, Mathilda” we are not speaking to you. One bullet: dodged.
To reiterate the itinerary for the month: Rumba on Wednesdays and Waltz on Thursdays. I know we should have moved the Waltz to Wednesdays this month, but we had to accommodate the larger rotation by not doing that (otherwise we would have had to postpone the Waltz to November {and we didn’t want to do that}).
The good news is that we are considering holding the Waltz again in November (Peggy’s brilliant idea), this time actually holding the class on Wednesday (and perhaps focusing on American style open work {stuff like Under Arm Turns and Running Under Arm Turns, etc.}). Come to classes and let us know if this sounds like fun to you. We will listen and deliberate.
Looking forward to seeing you all again on Wednesdays & Thursdays.
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon
