Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – February 4th 2025

Dear All,

Not just one new dance, but two!  February is here and so are the Quickstep and the Swing/Jive.  Now (I repeat NOW) is the time to get in on the ground level and join us at the entry level for the first classes of the month this Wednesday (for the Quickstep) and Thursday (for the Swing/Jive) or both days (for both).

Quickstep and Swing are a serendipitous combination as both dances came into being during the Big Band era and were originally danced to Big Band music, making them kind of, like, dance brothers.  In fact, it is a normal practice at many ballroom studies for people to do Quickstep around the perimeter of a dance hall whilst (accent on the “st”) others are in the center of the dance hall Swinging and Jiving.  And now you get to learn both in the same month.  Wowee!

As two of the most vigorous dances out there (along with Samba {but that’s next month, folks}) you will be strengthening your metabolisms and your muscles whilst (there’s that word again!) simultaneously developing important and incredible new skills.  Again, we say: wowee!

As if that weren’t enough, dancing is one of the greatest stress relieving activities out there (or so the scientists tell us {and we can vouch for them ourselves from our many years of experience!}) and the more vigorous the dance the quicker the stress falls away.  Don’t forget, not only are you strengthening your bodies, but your minds as you train the two (mind and body) to work in unison with a healthy dose of emotional satisfaction and spiritual gratification thrown in to boot (or to “dance-shoe” in this case).

Can the word “wowee” be said too often?  (Well, turns out it can, we will sign off to resist the temptation to use it one more time.

Come to class for your own benefit, the benefit of dancing and the addition of heartfelt joy to the world.  If enough of you come, we promise to never use the word “wowee” again.

See you there, then.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
