Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – September 3rd 2019

Dear All,

Well, let’s get this bit out of the way right off the bat.  Affixing its laser scope firmly onto its firearm, COS has taken careful, deliberate aim and fired once again at its own foot.  We are told that “due to administrative challenges” (such as the challenge of being marginally competent – it’s hard for some people!), COS has decided to cancel all the Life Long Learning (Community Ed) courses (that hadn’t already started) for the rest of the year (or, at least, that’s what they told us), which means our Ballroom classes will not be held this Fall as originally scheduled.

Our apologies to all of you for encouraging you to take a class that COS may never have intended to actually sponsor all along (judging by all appearances).

On the positive side, we are still working with the Weed Community Center and they have agreed to allow us to hold the class at the same time (Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, commencing September 17th) only without the excessive paperwork or having to deal with the execrable & odious (our COS students descriptions, not ours) COS on-line registration system.  Just show up at class and pay $5 ($3 if you are a Weed Community Center member) and dance!

But why wait until Sept. 17th when you can start SWING dancing tonight Tuesday Sept. 3rd.?!?  That’s right, show up at the Wellness Center (633 Lassen Lane, Mt. Shasta) and for a handful of pocket change, you can become a dancing fool (or start the process that will result in your NOT being a dancing fool)!

As if that wasn’t enough, you can also come on Wednesday night and pick up the Samba and impress the boys (and the girls, gentlemen) with your superior hip action!

And if that wasn’t enough, you can come back again on Thursday and work on the kind of elegance only the Waltz gives you!

And if that still wasn’t enough:  you can come to the Technique class on Saturday morning and learn how to fly through space with the greatest of ease with the Quickstep (all levels welcome from the most beginning to advanced).

So whether you are facing the music or standing with your back to it, come to class and just dance!

See you there.

Saturday Morning Technique Class

Mt. Shasta Park

Dance Hall

 1315 Nixon Rd.

Mt. Shasta, CA

Saturday Mornings: September 6, 13, 20, 27

Dance:   QUICKSTEP

9:45 – 11:00 am:     Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities.  Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation,  etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.).   Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression.   Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.

And that is just too much fun to miss out on!   So, what say you give it a try?  Eh?

11:00 – 11:45 am:      Amalgamations.   Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.

COST:  $15/person

               $10/person youth discount

October dance:   Quickstep II
