Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – October 1st 2019

Dear All,

A couple of anomalies:  first, this week only, the Saturday morning Technique class will be meeting at 9:30 am instead of at 9:45 am.  This is being done to accommodate a one-time scheduling anomaly which won’t be happening again any time soon (hence the use of the word “anomaly”).

Second, the Fort Jones classes will be meeting on the second & third Friday this month (10/11 & 10/18) instead of the second & fourth Friday. This is being done to accommodate the end-of-the-month Lake Shastina Dance Party which is BACK AT LAST!!!!

Yes, the Lake Shastina Dance Party is going to be held once again on the last Friday of each month, giving you a chance to practice your newly developed dance skills in an actual social environment.  Remember those?

Before the age of smart phones and large-screen TV’s there used to be these things called “Social Environments” where people would (shockingly) actually meet with other people, engage in (gasp) eye contact, talk to each other (the horror!) and participate in a previously-agreed upon mutual activity (in this case, dance).  Trust us, it will be fun!

So, mark your calendars for 10/25 (the date of the Party) and come join us in Lake Shastina.   Address and times to be announced later this month.

Whilst you are breathlessly awaiting this announcement, be sure to come to classes this month.  The more classes you attend, the more dancing will be able to do at the dance party and the more fun you will have and the healthier you will be and the more control you will have over your own coordination and the longer you get to keep your brains and the stronger you will get and . . . well just come and find out for yourselves (hint:  these are only a few of the benefits of ballroom dance!).

Join us in our classes (which are themselves miniature social environments, so you can practice being in one of those, too, while you are learning to dance – talk about your win-win!).

See you there.

Saturday Morning Technique Class

Mt. Shasta Park

Dance Hall

 1315 Nixon Rd.

Mt. Shasta, CA

Saturday Mornings:   October 5, 12, 19,26

Dance:   QUICKSTEP

9:30 – 10:45 am:     Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities.  Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation,  etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.).   Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression.   Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.

And that is just too much fun to miss out on!   So, what say you give it a try?  Eh?

11:00 – 11:30am:      Amalgamations.   Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.

COST:  $15/person

               $10/person youth discount

November dance:   Waltz
