Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – October 28th 2019
Dear All,
So. Hallowe’en. Or as some call it, All Hallows Eve. Not many know this, but it was originally called Yallowe’en (short for Ya-yallowe’en) because it was a night for getting your ya-ya’s out before observing a religious holiday of restraint and abstinence.
Speaking of restraint and abstinence, there was certainly none of that last Friday night at the dance party! We all danced and danced and danced, then nibbled some exquisite goodies and imbibed some fabulous fluids provided by some of our dancers (none of those beverages alcoholic and still a great time was had!) and danced some more! Everyone danced a lot, a minimal number of new steps were introduced and we all got to do the Merengue, too!
I wouldn’t describe it as a bacchanalia, precisely, but I suppose it could have been called a beethovenalia if someone of just the right (or wrong) twist of mind had been there to observe and then label it so. Fortunately for all of us, that person wasn’t there so an exceptionally good time was had by all.
We would like to extend a big thank you to our Hostess, Victoria and her aide/assistant/volunteer Debbie for their organizational skills and their efforts which contributed greatly to the success of the evening. And to all who contributed snacks & nibbles & tasty beverages, we would like to extend a second big thank you. It was, after all, a two Big-Thank-You party! Stay tuned to the near future for word regarding next month’s dance party so that those of you who couldn’t make this one will have your chance to contribute to the success of the next one. And who knows: perhaps because of you, that one might turn out to be a three Big-Thank-You party!
Also: this week, the Technique class is back (cheers, popping of corks, confetti & the slapping of backs) in the park. But for this week only, we will be in the Lower Lodge which is right next door (to the right) to the Dance Lodge where we usually hold the class. We are back to the Waltz.
If you really want to enjoy next month’s dance party, come learn the secret tricks and methods that we teach only in that class (the secret knowledge that will make you a whole lot better a whole lot quicker)! Mum’s the word. Come’s the next word, so come join us and find out what dancing is really all about!
See you there.

Saturday Morning Technique Class
Mt. Shasta Park
Lower Lodge (this week only)
1315 Nixon Rd.
Mt. Shasta, CA
Saturday Mornings: November 2, 9, 16, 27, 30
Dance: WALTZ
9:30 – 10:45 am: Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities. Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation, etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.). Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression. Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.
And that is just too much fun to miss out on! So, what say you give it a try? Eh?
11:00 – 11:30am: Amalgamations. Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.
COST: $15/person
$10/person youth discount
December dance: WALTZ (still)
