Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – January 20th 2020
Dear All,
Don’t let them Cold Weather Blues git ya down! Y’all just scamper yourselves down to dance class and stomp out a rhythm or two. It’ll do wonders fer kickin’yer spirits into high gear. And it will also improve your path-stompin’ skills fer when the snow’s not quite deep enough to warrant a shovelin’! Why whine/whine when you kin win/win?
Thank you, Rick, for that erudite and heartfelt plea to the inner spirit to address and alleviate the despondency and distress that often accompanies the danker, more dismal meteorological phenomena by appealing to the spiritual resuscitation and rejuvenation so often provided by the terpsichorean arts (not to mention the concomitant .improvement to one’s skills when it comes to one of the several inconveniences of winter). And that, my friends, is what you call paraphrasing!
Long story short: come to class. You will feel better if you do. We will always be glad to see you, and perhaps that alone will make you feel better! (Nah: the steady accrual of stronger and stronger dance skills will be what will really make you feel better . . . but having people be glad to see you does help!)
And besides, you will want to have more fun at the Dance (practice) Party on the 31st (from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Lake Shastina Club House {15244 Driftwood Lane, Lake Shastina}). We will be playing music for all the dances that are currently being taught (Foxtrot, Night Club Two Step, Country Two Step, Quickstep, Cha-cha and Waltz) along with all the other dances (Tango, Bolero, Samba, Rumba, Merengue, Swing, Salsa, etc.). If your brand new to dancing, come to the party to do (and practice) the dances you know and also to see how much fun the other dances (that your going to end up knowing) can be!
Do it to keep your spirits up (and to learn how to dance!).
Be seeing you in classes.

Saturday Morning Technique Class
Mt. Shasta Park
Dance Lodge
1315 Nixon Rd.
Mt. Shasta, CA
Saturday Mornings: January 4, 11, 18, 25
Dance: WALTZ
9:30 – 10:45 am: Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities. Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation, etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.). Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression. Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.
And that is just too much fun to miss out on! So, what say you give it a try? Eh?
11:00 – 11:30am: Amalgamations. Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.
COST: $15/person
$10/person youth discount
February Dance: QUICKSTEP
