Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – February 10th 2020
Dear All,
Owls were silenced all over Siskiyou county last week. Why? Because the Merengue & Rumba class was such a hoot last Tuesday that there was nothing left for them to say. And as if that were not enough, the Cha-cha class last Friday in Fort Jones was just as hooty (if not hootier) which silenced them even further! Yes, definitely a two-hoot week for the dance community (if, perhaps, not the owl community)!
Not that the Foxtrot & Quickstep classes weren’t also fun. They were! It’s just that everyone in those two classes were so determined to get the steps that there was no time for hooting. Fear not, my Foxtrotting and Quickstepping friends, your day to hoot is coming, and hoot you will! We promise.
It’s not too late to get in on the Merengue & Rumba class. We will be reviewing everything this week before moving in. There are still hoots to be had and if you want to be there to have them, we welcome you to come join us.
And if you want to develop your technique, skills, style, what-have-you, let us remind you that the Saturday Morning Technique Class is accepting all levels (since everyone works at their own level -from absolute beginner to the highly advanced). The hoots will be farther in the future in this class, but they will be bigger, louder and more impressive (like your dancing will be) when they do come.
If you have any hoot-lorn friends, bring them along and one day maybe we will all be able to join forces with the owls and hoot along in harmony. This is just one more of the unexpected benefits of dance. Come join us.
Be seeing you in classes.

Saturday Morning Technique Class
Mt. Shasta Park
Dance Lodge
1315 Nixon Rd.
Mt. Shasta, CA
Saturday Mornings: February 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Dance: QUICKSTEP
9:45– 10:45 am: Technical drills in International and American Smooth Style dances specifically designed to strengthen and improve your dancing and dancing abilities. Focusing on the elements that make Partner dancing more fluid, dynamic, powerful and fun: Hip Action (Rotation, Sinking, Isolation, etc.) Foot action (motility, bounce, control, etc.), Arm Action & Rib-cage action (Isolation, Side Extension, etc.). Developing these basic skills will improve your performance in not just this dance, but in all the dances by giving you more control over your balance, timing, power and expression. Or, in other words, allowing you to dance freely and funly.
And that is just too much fun to miss out on! So, what say you give it a try? Eh?
11:00 – 11:45am: Amalgamations. Putting those drills you worked on in the first hour to work in the actual Figures of the dance, allowing you to develop more control over the steps, floor craft and yourself.
COST: $15/person
$10/person youth discount
March Dance: QUICKSTEP (continuing)
