Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou Count & Northern California – January 17th 2022
Dear All,
Well, we are finally getting it worked out. This simple switch of one dance from one day to another day (and vice-versa) has proven to be more troublesome than anticipated. So: this week, Waltz on Wednesday, Rumba/Cha-cha on Thursday, no ifs, ands or butts (spelling not an accident). We may not have quite hit the ground running, but we have finally hit the ground dancing.
It’s beginning to look like we may be spending the rest of the month reviewing (and perfecting) the Waltz routine on Wednesdays rather than offering any new steps. The good news is that everyone will have the entire Bronze Syllabus for International Waltz thoroughly under their belts (which is fortunate, because under our belts just happens to be where our feet are) and pretty solidly burned into the neural pathways (for better retention and stronger proprioceptive learning {look it up}). The bad news is this: no-new-steps. But since more new steps may tend to only lead to confusion, not such bad news after all.
The Rumba has been feeling neglected of late, so this week we will refresh everyone on what we have done so far and only then add new material (after the old material is thoroughly digested). We should, by the end of the month, be able to have Chacha-ized all of the Rumba steps we covered last month, sin which case: mission accomplished. If not, you will still have learned some new Cha-cha moves in which case: mission accomplished. Come Thursdays for the Rumba/Cha-cha and accomplish the mission regardless of what happens in class.
As always, we look forward to seeing you in class again this week. Everyone has been making such good progress and we would love to see that continuing to happen. Come to class and help us help you make your dancing dreams come true.
See you there, then.
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s. We are still respecting the mask protocols established by the state (masks not required if vaccinated, if not: masks. (We monitor many other studios in California and Oregon. This seems to be the standard unanimous protocol. We will keep checking and modifying as per industry standards, medical understandings and simple, classical logic – as needed.)
