Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – March 14th 2022

Dear All,

We want to squash the rumors that we will be teaching the Irish Jig instead of Bolero this Thursday (since Thursday is St. Patrick’s Day).  We’re not . . . we’re just not.   We don’t know how these rumors get started (we suspect jiggery-pokery – pun intended) but nothing on earth would ever make us change a Bolero class to anything else.

But since the Irish theme has been invoked, in honor of the upcoming day of celebration, we would like to pass on to you this little tidbit of Irish lore which had been passed on to us by an Irish acquaintance some time ago: in the same way that Eskimos have eighteen different words for “snow”, each one describing a different state or condition of snow, the Irish have twenty-three different words for “idiot”, each one describing a different state or condition of idiocy.  So it remains for each of us to find out which kind of idiot we most directly identify with and celebrate it . . . unless that is what everyone is doing already. . .!?

But back to dance (this is a dance newsletter after all . . . all evidence to the contrary). Classes have grown in size and as a result, have grown in fun, too!  How can this be (?) (we hear you ask) when classes were already as much fun as can be had WFD!  We don’t know the answer, we only report what we see (and experience ourselves).  And the verdict is in: funner!

So come to the cabaret, old chums (and new chums, too).  The acquisition of skills is not  usually this enjoyable and we exhort you all to take advantage of it.

Don’t forget, Tango on Wednesday and Bolero on Thursday.  If those words alone don’t bring a smile to your lips, then you really need to come to these classes so that one day in the near future, they will.

Be seeing you there.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s.  Mask protocols are being relaxed in accordance with various studios around the state (and our own sick-to-deathedness of breathing filtered air).  We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what they feel is best for yourselves and will be happy to wear our masks when dealing specifically with you should you so desire.  Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be.  Make your decisions accordingly.
