Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – April 18th 2022

Dear All,

Here we are, half-way through the month with quite a few new skills under our belts (or, rather, under our shoelaces) and more to come.   We are encouraged by everyone’s progress.  The Quickstep and the Swing/Jive are two of the more (most?) complex dances and are not the easiest of dances to learn.  But you are holding up just fine and are picking up things better than you may be thinking.

By the end of the month, you will all (as in each and all) be able to step on the wild, untamed dance floor and not embarrass yourselves.  In fact, you are all showing promise of actually being able to shine on the wild, untamed dance floor.  It may not feel like it, perhaps, but we can see it.  And if someone with eyesight as poor as mine can see it, then it’s there in spades.

Don’t forget our motto: “the more you polish your skills, the more they will shine”, just like fine silver.  And that means spending as much time as possible in classes as well as at the sadly few regional social occasions for dancing (aka our Practice Parties) held on the first Friday of each month (next one: May 6th).

You work so hard in class to learn how to dance, it’s time to play just as hard to improve those skills.  We chose the name “Practice Party” to get the message across that no one has to be “perfect” to attend.  We work hard to maintain a judgement-free zone in all of our classes and we extend that same protection to one and all at our practice parties.  Our errors teach us and we should not fear them but welcome them.  We do, and we expect nothing less from you.

Join us for both our classes and the practice parties.  We will feature more dances from the previously month’s offerings (in this case, Quickstep and Swing/Jive) to give you more practice at the material you just learned and we will also be there to dance with you ourselves and offer to help you overcome any issues that may arise whilst on the wild, untamed dance floor.

Come to classes so that you will have more steps to do at the parties and more steps in your overall repertoire for all dance parties in your futures.

We look forward to seeing you all again in class this week.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s.  We are relaxing Mask Protocols..  We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what you feel is best for yourselves and will happily wear our own masks when dealing with you specifically should you so desire.  Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be.  Make your decisions accordingly but make them based on real information.
