Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – May 2nd 2022

Dear All,

May Day!  May Day! . . . oh wait, that was yesterday.  And a good thing, too.  We wouldn’t want anyone thinking trouble was imminent (because it’s not!). With Rumba and Viennese Waltz being taught this month, there are nothing but good times ahead for the people of this community.  As well as good skills to develop and good fun to be had.

A quick reminder (from last week’s newsletter):  We will be teaching the Viennese Waltz to Slow Waltz tempos (initially, then speeding up as the month and the class members dance skills progress).  And the Rumba is a slow dance to begin with, embodying all of the technique and elements of the faster dances that you will be encountering later this year but in an easy-to-digest format at easy-to-accomplish speeds.

If you have any friends who would like to begin learning how to partner dance, this is the month to encourage/cajole/persuade/exhort/demand/brow-beat/force them into coming to classes (gently, of course and only for their own good – of course).

But the BIG NEWS OF THE WEEK is that it is the first of the month and that means: DANCE PARTY (or, if you prefer: PRACTICE PARTY FOR DANCE)!  This is your chance to practice and develop your newly acquired skills from the classroom in their “natural” environment on the wild (savage?) dance floor.  Not only fun, but educational, too!  And, as always, we will be there to help you sort out any problems that come up (just ask).

Bring your new skills, bring your capacity for fun and bring your challenges.  All three will benefit.  You will get the chance to polish your lead-follow skills, and that is worth it’s weight in lead-follow skills (much more valuable than gold)!!

Join us this Friday (May 6th) from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at the Lake Shastina Clubhouse (15244 Driftwood Lane – right on the lake).  We will again post driving instructions at the end of this newsletter (after the postscript).  There will be refreshments.  If you have a favorite that you would like to share, by all means feel free to bring it along (we would, but all of our favorites are so heavily laced with garlic, we would not be thanked.  By anyone).

And come to class to pick up two more dances to practice at the PRACTICE party.  See you there, there, and, with luck, everywhere.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s.  We are relaxing Mask Protocols..  We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what you feel is best for yourselves and will happily wear our own masks when dealing with you specifically should you so desire.  Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be.  Make your decisions accordingly but make them based on real information.

p.p.s.    What do you call it when The Lone Ranger takes you out for dinner and a movie?  A “masked man date”.
