Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – May 23rd 2022
Dear All,
It is now the last third of Spring (or Springsummer, as some few call it) and later in June, we will enter the first third of Summer (or Summerspring, as that very same some few call it). Don’t let’s let the last classes of May feel neglected by your absence; come learn the final steps of the Viennese Waltz and the Rumba (the final steps, that is, that this class cycle will be teaching . . . there are still dozens more for next time! And there will be a next time!).
The more steps you know, the more fun you will have at the Practice Parties we hold each month (next one: June 3rd – be there or be cubed {that’s square squared}). Having fun whilst developing your skills? Yes, please! Life just doesn’t get more serendipitous than that!
Speaking of June (and I’m pretty sure that someone mentioned it in the first paragraph . . . yep, there it is . . . ), we have had a change of plans (partly due to strategy but partly due to student request, as well so don’t be afraid to put your two cents in, folks. You never know when it may pay off!). We will still teach the Cha-cha on Thursdays as promised, but we are changing the Wednesday night class to Country Two-Step (aka the Texas Two-Step or the name of any other region that would like to lay claim to it).
It’s kind of the “anti-Foxtrot” in that the timing is reversed but still fun for all that and we haven’t seen one person (ok, two people) doing the Country Two-step having a miserable time. We realized that the “F” word (Fun) was being invoked, and as inveterate Invokers-Of-Fun ourselves, we thought we would give it a go. Come give it a go yourselves.
You can find out if the experiment is a success by joining in (but only after you finish off the Viennese Waltz and Rumba this week! . . . ok, ok . . . you can come even if you don’t manage to make classes this week. But don’t make a habit of it!).
See you this week and next and all the weeks to come. The inveterate invoking of fun demands!
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s. We have relaxed Mask Protocols.. We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what you feel is best for yourselves and will happily don our own masks when dealing with you specifically should you so desire. Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be. Make your decisions accordingly but make them based on real information. Don’t be afraid to wear them, but don’t feel that you must.
p.p.s. What do you call it when The Lone Ranger takes you out for dinner and a movie? A “masked man date”!
