Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – October 11th 2022
Dear All,
As we have only had one lesson each of Waltz and Bolero, it is still not too late to stop beating yourself up for having missed the first classes and join us, since we will be reviewing the basic-most figures before we add new ones. We cannot reiterate enough how much fun these two dances are to dance (but you can bet we are going to try!).
Bolero is in a tight competition with the Tango as to which can be the most dramatic (i.e. the most fun, though there is a highly romantic and gentle aspect to Bolero as well) and the lilt of the Waltz is a delight to the spirit and a balm for the soul that once you experience you will treasure forever (or for as long as your feet hold out). We recommend both, ourselves; these two dances rank high among our favorites. But pick the one that best feeds your inner spirits (high drama or spirit-delighting, soul-soothing gentle movement . . . or both).
But don’t take our word for it, come find out for yourselves. If the proof of the pudding is in the eating, the proof of the dancing is in the doing. Besides, it is national Find-Out-For-Yourself Week this week. It behooves each and every one of us to find out for ourselves (unless you adhere to the less-well-known definition of “behoove” which is: to equip with a hoof or several {which, unless you want to be a “hoofer” [usually referring to a tap dancer\ is not the ideal foot-type for Ballroom Dance}) this week, if not every week. So come join us and (all together now) “find out for yourself”!
See you in class (and yes, even if you are hooved, you will be welcomed). We look forward to seeing your smiling faces and/or to giving you smiling faces.
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s. We have relaxed Mask Protocols.. We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what you feel is best for yourselves and will happily don our own masks when dealing with you specifically should you so desire. Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be. Make your decisions accordingly but make them based on real information. Don’t be afraid to wear them, but don’t feel that you must.
p.p.s. What do you call it when The Lone Ranger takes you out for dinner and a movie? A “masked man date”!
