Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – November 15th 2022
Dear All,
Well, sir, (or Ma’am{zelle}), I hate to say it, but this week is the last week for the Waltz. Next Thursday the gym will be closed due to Thanksgiving and the Thursday after that is December 1st, which means a new dance for the new month. Now, that new dance will be the Viennese Waltz, so the differences will be minimal (speed is pretty much the main difference) and December could be viewed as a continuation.
In deference to the speed of the Viennese, the steps will remain simpler (once one learns the Left Turn) so we encourage you all to join us (and also to continue with us.). And you can always do the Viennese figures to the slower tempo of the basic Waltz on the wild dance floor, so it could feel like an extension of November. And we will be learning at a slower-than-full=tempo rate (with the occasional stab at full-tempo for educational purposes) so even beginners can join us with success.
Since the last day of November (the 30th) is a Wednesday, the Wednesday night Bolero class will happen two more times: this week and the week after Thanksgiving. So, two more shots at Bolero this month (“Hooray!” for those of you who like the Bolero . . . and also “Hooray” for those of you who don’t, as it will give you an extra chance to develop an appreciation for this lovely dance that so richly merits appreciation)!
Looking forward to seeing you all in class this week and watching you all continue to acquire the elegance and grace that (perhaps unbeknownst to yourselves) you have all been acquiring with each and every class you have taken.
Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon

p.s. We have relaxed Mask Protocols.. We will encourage the un-vaccinated to do what you feel is best for yourselves and will happily don our own masks when dealing with you specifically should you so desire. Otherwise, we are all on our own, now, as so-called adults should be. Make your decisions accordingly but make them based on real information. Don’t be afraid to wear them, but don’t feel that you must.
p.p.s. What do you call it when The Lone Ranger takes you out for dinner and a movie? A “masked man date”!
