Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – January 3rd 2023
Dear All,
Well, another year, another dollar. That would make $2,023 dollars if we had been born in year 1 ad. But, alas, as much as it sometimes feels as if we had been, we, in fact, haven’t.
Let’s get the word of warning out of the way quickly. Word of Warning! (or WoW): There are sufficient admonitions of potentially perilous precipitation (or snowfall, for the less alliterative) in the media (radio, television, internet, w-o-m {word of mouth}, etc.) to alert us to the possibility that classes may be cancelled this week due to bad weather.
We want to advise that all of you check your e-mails before you leave for classes this Wednesday and Thursday nights, in case we have to cancel. The decisions will be made mid to late afternoon to give you as much time as possible to get the information so that no one makes a needless trip.
And even if Mountain Fitness stays open, there is a strong possibility that we might be bermed in, as the snowplows in McCloud love to sail by in the late afternoon and early evening, leaving a three-foot wall of snow between our car and freedom (dance class) just as we are trying to leave for class.
Though we will have already dug ourselves out from the early morning berming-in (another one of the hilarious practical jokes that seems to keep snowplow operators in stitches year-in year-out), we would be unable to re-dig ourselves out that close to class time and then conduct a remotely passable class on the amount of energy we would (not) have left (due to the lengthy recuperative processes we have been undergoing since last month plus the last second expenditure of that dwindling amount of energy).
Long story short, the possibility of classes being cancelled is higher rather than lower so double check your e-mails before leaving for class. If there is no e-mail, we will be there to teach (and we will endeavor to be there in any event {that is, any event except the one where we get bermed in by late afternoon or early evening}).
This wouldn’t affect the Samba class too badly, as it is a continuation from last month and there will still be plenty of time for plenty of steps. And as for the Quickstep class, if we find ourselves sadly lacking in steps learned by the end of the month, we will simply extend Quickstep into February and still come out with plenty of steps and plenty of time to learn them.
It is our fervent hope that we will see you this week, and if all goes well, we will. And if it doesn’t, we look forward to seeing you next week. Check your messages, ducks.
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon
