Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – April 3rd 2023

Dear All,

Despite the massive piles of snow on the ground and the occasional (but still happening far too often) bone-chilling gust of wind, there are signs of Spring afoot.  Ants are beginning to make an appearance (I do so loathe the smell of ants!); the cats, who have been snuggling under the blankets with us at night for the last five months have begun to spend a little more time sleeping on top of the blankets instead (presumably because it is becoming warm enough to do so).

And I, who have been wearing my sherpa hat inside the house and out every waking moment of every single day have been, lately, accidently leaving it behind on occasion (presumably because there is a warmth to the environment previously undetected by my scalp cells).  That, and the layers and layers of clothing in which we have been swaddling ourselves for the last five months is almost down to one (we won’t suggest fewer out of fear of giving all of you nightmares).  All of the signs of that mysterious re-awakening process we barely know enough about to call Spring are impinging themselves on our consciousnesses (and on our subconsciousnesses as well).

Sounds to us like a good time to introduce Swing/Jive and Tango, two dances that re-awaken the primal internal juices of the human body.  If you don’t know what I am talking about, you are just going to have to come to classes and find out for yourselves, as words cannot do justice to the actuality.

It’s time to awaken ourselves to the deeper mysteries inherent to the process we call dance; a process that will continue to deepen as you continue to train/learn/enjoy.  Hopefully (as with us) it will become a life-long passion for you all that will warm your bones for that small piece of forever embodied deep within each of us.

Please join us.  You won’t be sorry (unless you don’t {join us, that is}).

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
