Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – July 18th 2023

Dear All,

Well, it’s certainly summer-sheet weather now.  Most of our sheets are geared for colder weather (micro-fiber plush fleece, micro-fiber fleece, micro-fiber flannel {which are good for Spring and Autumn as well}), but we have one set of sheets made of Egyptian long-staple cotton that are good for hot weather and we dragged them out of storage this week and are ever so glad to have them.  We are sleeping like babies now (as in closing our eyes in innocence and awakening with innocence refreshed the next morning {NOT as in crying all night long and prodigiously wetting the bed!}).

You know what else is good for hot weather?  Air-conditioned dance studios, which, by the merest of coincidences, by the most extenuating of circumstances, by the blindest of lucks (and, ok, perhaps a little by a modicum of planning) is exactly the environment we are teaching in this week (as in all the other weeks)!!

Yes, we admit it, Samba (on Wednesday nights) is a bit of an exertion, but the rewards are well worth it!  Good for the body, good for the mind and fun, fun, fun (which is code for “good for the soul”)!  And the Foxtrot (Thursday nights) is still the coolest of all the cool dances, so that even the steps themselves are refreshing and temperature-lowering (and, in both classes, we will be teaching some real doozies this week and next (not that we, in any way, ever have or ever will refer to any of our students as “doozies”)!!

The sadness of anyone missing these next two weeks is enough to cast us into a state of despair so deep that we will find ourselves wracked with sobs and weeping so copiously that Mt. Shasta would make New England (with all of their floods and storm watches) look like a desert by comparison.  Such sadness just should not be.

Come join us and make the world a happier place even as we make each and every one of you better (happier) dancers.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
