Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – July 25th 2023

Dear All,

Oops.  After promising you all Bolero for next month’s Latin dance, a closer look at the past agenda shows us that Rumba is actually the next dance to teach as we taught Bolero in May but haven’t taught Rumba since February.  So, Rumba it is in August for the Thursday night class, and Tango will still be the Wednesday night class as originally stated.

For those of you who were in the process of setting your hearts on Bolero, we will be teaching it in November, so re-reset your hearts for then and you will be alright.  If it is any consolation, we will be doing some work on Rumba technique throughout the month to help you all achieve the sensuousness that stands out in the Rumba and is the reason that the way female Rumba dancers walk make the way super-models walk look stork-like and awkward.  If you are a female, come to class to learn this impressive skill.

If you are a male, come to class to learn pure male machoistic and totally masculine sensuality by learning the male version of those skills.  And men, if you don’t believe that women appreciate hip-movements in men, remember Elvis (and possibly Mick Jagger) and be reassured.  Also, for everybody, the steps themselves are fun and, perhaps, the only Latin steps that can be defined as “elegant”.

One last note: due to the inaccessibility of our venue this month, there will be no dance party this Friday.  We are planning one for the end of August, but July will be practice-party free, unfortunately.  Some of our students are considering getting together and setting up half-hour training sessions after our regular classes.  It would be classified as a group private, and the main virtue of sessions like that is that you get to ask for whatever you want and we deliver (not to be mistaken for a “weedy liver”, which is a medical condition if I am not mistaken).  Anyone interested in joining a group like that or forming one of your own, let us know by e-mail, calling us or coming to classes and inquiring.

And, by all means, come for our final lollapalooza, doozy-laden, fun-for-the-whole-family final steps in the Samba and Foxtrot this week.  Those who came last week learned some real doozies.  Everybody worked hard and got it in the end (I suppose you could say they “paid their dooze”! Eh?   Eh?)

Looking forward to seeing you all this week (if the so-called sense of so-called humor hasn’t driven you away).

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
