Ballroom Newsletter, Siskisyou County & Northern California – August 22nd 2023
Dear All,
First and most importantly, circumstances are such that there will not be holding a Practice Party this month. So many people are going to be out of town (this is August, after all) and many of those who are left have let us know that they have either made other plans or have had other plans foisted upon them, so we have agreed to wait until September to hold the next Practice Party. Sorriness to those who were looking forward to it, gladness to those who are relieved. On to the rest of the newsletter:
I was awakened by the sound of rain last night, its mellow percussions lulling me into a soft, warm mood of gentle compassion and love. We both love having a tin roof on days and nights like this as it amplifies and transmits the sound of raindrops falling. Laying there in bed with the Milk of Human Kindness coursing through my veins and my heart (which, with the A-fib adding a lot of extra beats, translates into a lot of extra Milk of Human Kindness!), my mind turned softly to this week’s classes.
Now, we know that many of you don’t believe that we plan classes, but we do. We really do. It doesn’t work out, as often as not, because we frequently arrive to a group composed of people for whom the plans we made weren’t the best and we have to wing it. But we usually wing it from the shambles of a well-made plan.
I couldn’t tell you if this week’s plans come from that mood of gentle compassion and love mixed with an abundance of Milk of Human Kindness or from my usual Sadistic Instructor Persona (who ordinarily plans most of our classes {with Peggy’s tempering influence keeping that planning from turning too sadistic[as if such a thing even exists]}) but here those plans are:
In Wednesday night’s Tango class we will review the Shadow Position Steps and then move on to a series of Open Left Turn variations (including a {ta-da!} brand new variation never before taught in Siskiyou County {indeed, possibly, the world!}). Don’t miss it!
And in Thursday’s Rumba class, after reviewing last week’s steps, we will continue working on the Fan to Hocky-stick variations adding a Stop-And-Go, a Twist Turn and a Curl (which has been taught in Siskiyou County {and the world} but never in our classes).
That’s the list. Join us for more fun than a barrel of dancing monkeys (not that we have ever, ever thought of you as a barrel of dancing monkeys! Honest!). Because, what’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys? Righto mateys: a barrel of dancing monkeys! (What a good name for a Ballroom Dance Team!)
Come join us and find out just how much fun a barrel of dancing monkeys can be! It’s not too late for anyone to come to class and join in the fun.!
Cheers,
Rick and Peggy Nixon
