Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – January 9th 2024

Dear All,

Last call!  No, not for alcohol, but for the Viennese Waltz and Nightclub Two Step.  This is the last week of the extended classes for those two dances so you will want to come to put the finishing touches on both of them.

In the Viennese Waltz on Wednesday night we’ll add the backward exits from the turning steps so that you will have about as much freedom in the selection of steps as there is to have (and by so learning, develop a new form of freedom).  There are only six different figures in the International Style Viennese Waltz (because of the requirement that you never {NEVER!!!} lose contact at the lower rib-cage {which is the chief defining factor of the International Style for every International Smooth dance} doesn’t allow for under-arm turns or shadow position figures or any of the figures that allows one to face away from his or her partner).

We have added three more in our training system and will be teaching two of those three Wednesday night and they will give you so many more choices to make on the dance floor.  So you will know six steps by the end of this Viennese training session (just not the original six steps). You won’t want to miss them.

And as for the Nightclub Two Step on Thursday, we will be reviewing the figures that we were unable to review last week and teach a couple of new figures that turn in a different direction than we have heretofore turned (thereby reducing the chances of dizziness).  So you won’t want to miss that, either!

Then, next weekTango will commence on Wednesday and Salsa will commence on Thursday!  Most likely we will extend these two dances into February, as there has been a request for more Salsa steps (and more Tango steps have always been welcomed).  Come start at the beginning next week for ease of learning (and for ease of polishing, if you are more advanced) and stay for a greater variety of figures for more fun and a higher degree of expression.   Man, I just can’t count the number of ways there will be winning this month!  Come participate in all of them (or as many of them as you can).

We look forward to seeing you all (regulars, returning newbies and brand newbies) this week in class.  Put a smile on our faces and we promise to put one on yours (fair is fair, after all).

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
