Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – October 15th 2024

Dear All,

We had beginners in both classes last week, which means the pace was slower.  That means two things: 1) Those of you who missed, whether you are beginning or more experienced will have no trouble catching up, and 2) those of you who are more experienced will be given technical instruction commensurate with your level and abilities that will improve your dancing, immeasurable.

These technical tasks and drills are easier to work on with simpler steps and figures, so you will be able to adopt them (and adapt to them) more quickly and more thoroughly, thereby speeding up your progress and developing your skill levels to still higher levels.  And it doesn’t hurt the beginners to be exposed to them at an earlier stage in their training, even if they aren’t working on them yet (as they should not be, because just getting the steps is a fulltime process at the beginning level) thereby making them more receptive to them when the time comes to consciously address them.

We’ve said it before and we will say it again:  win-win (actually, since I got to use the word “thereby” twice in the same paragraph:  win-win-win! {one of the grammatical perks of thoroughly enjoying the use of language).

So come one, come all.  We will make sure that no matter what level the class is at, you will learn, develop and strengthen.  Remember, you are not just learning how to dance.  You are also learning how to process greater and greater levels of complexity on a week-by-week basis.  That could be one of the reasons why Ballroom dance has been found to be such a good Alzheimer’s combatant (and the earlier we start the better {that’s a hint, folks}!).

Come to classes this week/month/year/decade and be (or become) one of the smart ones.

  1. we are considering starting up the “Ballroom for Parkinson’s” class again and would like to ascertain how much of a need there is. Do any of you know anyone or of anyone who might benefit from such a class (or might any of you be one such, yourselves)?  Please let us know, either by e-mail or in class.  We will go into this more deeply in next week’s newsletter.  Thank you so much.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
