Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – October 22nd 2024

Dear All,

Week three and all’s well!  The classes are proceeding apace (using the medieval definition of the word {moving at a goodly speed} and not the modern definition {quickly}) and everyone is progressing admirably.  The beginners are picking up the basic steps quickly and the more advanced (experienced) dancers are being given technical aspects to work on (which they are all working on and beautifully, too!), which is strengthening their skill level and developing the quality of their dancing nicely.  As we said: classes are proceeding apace.

It is always easier and better to work on the technical aspects with the basic steps as there is less complexity to muddy the waters (so to speak).  Most people don’t start working on the technique until they reach the Gold level steps, thereby trying to master technique whilst using the most complex and (dare I say it) convoluted of steps.  Big mistake.

One can learn and execute all of the Bronze level steps whilst completely ignoring technique; and one can fake his/her way through the Silver level steps whilst dodging having to use technique.  But the Gold level steps are (for the most part) incapable of being executed without the technique (which is partially what makes them Gold steps) which leaves the budding dancer trying to master the techniques using the hardest steps in the syllabi.

In our classes, we expose you to technique at the Bronze level steps to give you a fighting chance to master them (and so we can conduct multi-level classes with something for everyone (newbies and oldbies alike).  You’re welcome.

Long story short (too late!): no matter what your level, come to classes!  You won’t regret it, no matter what your level.

See you there, then.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
