Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – January 28th 2025

Dear All,

Here we are once again at that saddest of moments (and simultaneously that happiest of moments): the last week of classes.  The saddest because we will be saying good-bye to two old friends, the Foxtrot and the Bolero, and even though we will be seeing them again this year (once, possibly twice more by year’s end) . . . in the interim they will be missed.

The happiest because we get to learn what will hopefully be the most fun of all the new steps you have learned, the most advanced step of each class which we will be able to add to our ever-growing vocabulary of steps and figures.

Rejoice in the acquisition of new knowledge and the assurance that when you see Foxtrot and Bolero again, instead of being ‘alien entities’ (for those of you who are new to them) those dances will be ‘treasured acquaintances’.  And for those of you who have encountered them before, they will have graduated from ‘treasured acquaintances’ to ‘old friends’.

Keep coming to class to see what these dances (indeed, all of the dances) become. The more often (and longer) you come, the closer to your bosom you will find yourself holding each of these dances.

So, this week in Foxtrot we are going to be setting you up for Pivot Turns (one of the more advanced skills) with the simplest, most basic introductory step.  And in Bolero, we will be working on some of the more sensuous steps to soothe your (and our) souls (more on “soothing the soul” in next week’s newsletter).

So join us for a fine week of dancing (not to mention a week of fine dancing {which will be up to you}).

See you there, then.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
