Ballroom Newsletter. Siskiyou County & Northern California – April 8th 2025

Dear All,

Well, we changed from the Winter sheets to the Spring sheets yesterday, in the presumption that the weather had become warm enough to indulge in that particular Springtime ritual.  As it turns out, our presumption was, in a word: presumptuous.  Day time temperatures and even evening temperatures may seem warm enough these days, but in the wee hours of the night (you know the ones: those “wee” hours that take an eternity to pass one by one by one whilst lying awake at night) the temperatures still drop precipitously back into winter-like states.

So, we have flipped back to the Winter sheets for at least a couple of weeks more (the cat helped us change the sheets back {and a good thing, too, or that job would have gone a lot quicker!} so we know it was the right move to make).  We will let you all know (the cat will tell us) when it is safe for everybody to change to their Spring sheets.

That crisis averted, let’s move on to the next crises: not enough people dancing (aka too few people dancing aka not enough dancing being done aka too many grumpy people).  Now some of you might say that being grumpy is a natural response to the state of the world today.  But it doesn’t have to be.

We could elect to be (or at least to affect being) cheerful in the face of adversity.  That doesn’t mean ignoring the things that so desperately need to be fixed, but we can do it with a positive, non-grumpy attitude.  And we have found that one of the best de-grumpifing activities in the world is dancing, more specifically (as an expression of social unity and togetherness) dancing with a partner (hereafter referred to as DWAP {but only because it is impossible to say the word DWAP without breaking into a grin [and even if that grin doesn’t quite reach the face, you still can’t deny that you feel it in your gut]}).

So come to Tango this Wednesday night and/or Salsa on Thursday to do your part in de-grumpifing and in gruntling (the opposite of disgruntling) the world.  Both classes are proving to be loads of fun (how much fun in a load?  I will check in the Farmer’s Almanac and get back to you) and we know that each and every one of you will have no regrets about coming.  And no one has ever regretted learning how to dance.  When was the last time you heard some one say “darn it, when I wasn’t looking, I accidently learned how to dance!  What a bother!”?

So put on your cheerful face and watch that smile spread to your feet by the end of class.   We look forward to seeing each and every one of you there.

Appropriately . . .

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
